Jesus gave the twelve Nephite disciples power to confer the gift of the Holy Ghost. About A.D. 401–21.
1 The words of Christ, which he spake unto his adisciples, the twelve whom he had chosen, as he laid his hands upon them—Emphasis on Christ himself speaking and that Christ himself, chose the disciples. Is it the same today?
2 And he called them by name, this says a lot: We are known individually, we are taught individually; we are accountable individually...saying: Ye shall acall on the Father in my name, in mighty prayer; not just prayer, but mighty prayer. The footnote goes to Ether 4 where it says that when we rend the veil of unbelief and call on the Father in the name of Christ with a broken heart and contrite spirit, that He will show us all the revelations that have been hid. Maybe this is what they did. It sounds like that is the true definition of "rending the veil of unbelief". When you are shown all things, your unbelief falls away and after ye have done this These are apostles. Is this part of their "calling"? to receive this revelation? That is a serious charge to "rend the veil" and receive this revelation. Have our apostles received this? ye shall have bpower The footnote for power goes to this scripture: Matthew 10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. I believe healing sickness and casting out unclean spirits go hand in hand. One way to read this is that the unclean spirits had to be cast out of the disciples before they could heal. The other way is to read it that the unclean spirits had to be cast out of the person that was sick in order for that person to be healed. Does that mean the spirit is causing the illness? or that the spirit can prevent the blessing from being efficacious? that to him upon whom ye shall lay your chands, dye shall give the Holy Ghost; and in my name shall ye give it, for thus do mine apostles. It sounds like they had to pray mightily for the power and authority to give the gift of the Holy Ghost. That is not required today...Maybe they are praying to know who to give it to? For the gift of discernment? Pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Do I know what "mighty prayer" is?
3 Now Christ spake these words unto them at the time of his first appearing; and the multitude heard it not, but the disciples heard it; and on as many as they alaid their hands, fell the Holy Ghost. Is this is the same as when we are given the gift of the Holy Ghost after we are baptized? The footnote for "laid" is that Paul laid his hands on people and gave them the gift of the Holy Ghost and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. Why does that not happen in our day?
