Chapter 32
Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost—Men must pray and gain knowledge for themselves from the Holy Ghost. About 559–545 B.C. Notice, that in this heading, that is written by the Church, the emphasis is to gain knowledge for yourself through the Holy Ghost. We are not to gain our knowledge by looking to “man” to get that knowledge for us so we don’t have to pray and gain it ourselves.
1 And
now, behold, my beloved brethren, I suppose that ye ponder somewhat in
your hearts concerning that which ye should do after ye have entered in
by the way. But, behold, why do ye ponder these things in your hearts? What do I do after I have been baptized and have received the Holy Ghost? Looking at the meaning of "entering the way" as receiving the Holy Ghost through the Baptism by Fire, not the water baptism and the injunction to "receive the Holy Ghost"...
2 Do ye not remember that I said unto you that after ye had areceived the Holy Ghost ye could speak with the btongue of angels? And now, how could ye speak with the tongue of angels save it were by the Holy Ghost? Speak with the tongue of angels I haven't received this yet. Evidence that I have not "received the Holy Ghost" or baptism by Fire.
3 aAngels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost; So, to speak with the tongue of angels is to speak by the power of the Holy Ghost wherefore, they speak the words of Christ. When we speak by the power of the Holy Ghost, we speak the words of Christ and those words should be carried by the power of the Holy Ghost to the hearts of those listening. It should be powerful. I'm assuming that not ALL the words we speak are by the Spirit, but perhaps they can all be in harmony with the Spirit; words we choose, but not given by the Spirit. This concept might have something to do with the teaching that the Spirit should give us the words we pray...Wherefore, I said unto you, bfeast upon the cwords of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will dtell you all things what ye should do. I think the 'words' referenced are the written words of Christ. This is why we can say "Jesus" is the answer to every question. Also, yesterday in April GC, Pres. Oaks for 15 minutes only quoted the words of Christ. I think I could/should listen to that every day! which is to speak the words of Christ by the power of the Holy Ghost. Feast upon the words of Christ to know what you are to do
4 Wherefore, now after I have spoken these words, if ye cannot understand them it will be because ye aask not, neither do ye knock; wherefore, ye are not brought into the light, but must perish in the dark. Ask and knock to understand and to be brought in to the light. This is my story: The “church” hasn’t asked about immunizations so they have not been brought in to the light on this subject and many will literally “perish in the dark” because they haven’t sought knowledge themselves. More important than that...we have to ask what the baptism by fire is and how to receive it. That is how we are brought into the light. Ask for it. Yesterday in GC someone made a statement about reading the scriptures in context. This topic began in the last chapter, so when Nephi says, "these words" he's talking about more than the verse before...
5 For behold, again I say unto you he wants us to understand this! that if ye will enter in by the way, do you understand 'the way' that Nephi taught? if not...go back and reread the last few chapters and receive the Holy Ghost, it will ashow unto you all things what ye should do. Notice that “entering in by the way” entitles you to the Holy Ghost and “it” (the Holy Ghost) will show you “all” things what ye should do. Not, “the prophet will show you all things what ye should do.” Even though he is called of God and is His mouthpiece, he is still a literal “arm of flesh” and is not infallible and God doesn’t intervene when we don’t ask and allows us to muddle through some things sometimes. The thing to follow the prophet on right now is learn to be taught by the Lord Himself. Learn to hear HIM.” (not just or only “me”). Do you feel like the Holy Ghost shows you all things you should do? Does this mean He shows us EVERY thing we do or just all things we SHOULD do; meaning there are many things we CAN do that are good, but not necessary to our salvation or perhaps mission. Somehow we have to reconcile "all things" to "many things of their own free will and choice and bring to pass much righteousness"
6 Behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and there will be no more doctrine given until after he shall amanifest
himself unto you in the flesh. And when he shall manifest himself unto
you in the flesh, the things which he shall say unto you shall ye
observe to do. If he is referencing the doctrine of Christ and the words of Christ then the thing you are to do after baptism is to repent and have faith in Christ as you keep all His commandments; those written in the law and those things He tells to you by the power of angels, who speak the words of Christ. They will often speak to you as you feast upon the written word. Take this literally and it means that until we are born again and receive the Holy Ghost, we will receive no more new doctrine. After we receive this First Comforter, we will receive the Second Comforter, which is when Christ "manifests himself unto you in the flesh". That is when you then do all things Christ will tell you to do. Perhaps we think "manifest in the flesh" is speaking of when Christ is born and ministers on the earth, but the people Nephi is talking to will not experience that. His words don't really make sense if it's when Christ is born. Adam teaches again in the flesh I shall see God". I think there is much unbelief about this..
7 And now I, Nephi, cannot say more; the Spirit stoppeth mine utterance, and I am left to mourn because of the aunbelief, and the wickedness, and the ignorance, and the bstiffneckedness of men; for they will cnot search dknowledge, nor understand great knowledge, when it is given unto them in eplainness, even as plain as word can be. Check your unbelief, wickedness, ignorance, stiffneckedness, unwillingness to search knowledge or understand it. One doctor/scientist said that when he approached his other doctor/scientist friends with what he had learned about immunizations, only 1% would even give him the time of day. The other 99% were unwilling to “search knowledge” even though it was being offered to them “in plainness”. They are stuck in unbelief and ignorance and are stiff-necked because they aren’t willing to turn their heads to even look at anything else. We must search for this "knowledge" of God that comes through the Holy Ghost. We must stop being "unbelieving" about the reality and necessity of being "born again". and of Christ 'manifesting' Himself to us in the flesh (does that mean our flesh or Christ's flesh?)
8 And
now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your
hearts; and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing. For
if ye would hearken unto the aSpirit which teacheth a man to bpray, ye would know that ye must cpray; for the devil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray. Pray! Do we really know how to pray?
9 But behold, I say unto you that ye must apray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall bpray unto the Father in the cname of Christ, that he will dconsecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the ewelfare of thy soul. Don't faint. (lose courage, become weak). Everything that you perform unto the Lord, pray first that the Father will consecrate your performance for your soul's welfare. I read this today and liked it: Is my every daily thought, word, and action sandwiched by prayer?
Bread- pray to ask guidance about what I should do now.
Cheese-begin guided action
Turkey- reach out for confirmation of revelation to do what I felt guided or for more information “is there more?”
Bread- prayer of joyous thanksgiving for the opportunity of living in daily revelation in true companionship with the Spirit.
